Labor Day Weekend

The Library will be closed Saturday, September 1st through Monday, September 3rd in observance of Labor Day.

A Fond Farewell

Today we say goodbye to Dr. Gordon Cook, Head of Learning Resource Services. For 32 years Dr. Cook has served the Woodbridge Campus with his leadership, expertise, and graciousness. Therefore, it is with great honor that the Woodbridge Campus Library now be named the Gordon M. Cook Library.

Dr. Cook is retiring to Colorado with his wife Carole to be closer to family. We wish them all the best!

Welcome to the beginning of the 07/08 school year! We've added some new things to the library over the summer. Come by and check them out!

Best Sellers Are Back! - Our collection of popular fiction and non-fiction books have been slimmed down and moved to a more prominent spot in the library; next to our display of new books.

New Television! - We have a new flat screen television located across from the circulation desk. Check the running ads for information and updates about the library.

Microsoft Office Coming Soon! - 12 new computers, each with Microsoft Office applications, will be added to the library this Fall.

Wired Laptop Area Coming Soon! - Posted previously on July 12th, 10 study carrels along the back of the stacks, located across from sections T - TS, will have wired internet connectivity.

Have a great semester and if you need help with research, locating books, MLA/APA citations, or just a random question, please stop by the library. We're glad to help!

Library Intersession Hours

During intersession, the time between the Summer 07 and Fall 07 semester, the library will be operating on the following schedule:

Classes and examinations end Monday, August 13th.

Tuesday, August 14th - 8:00am to 7:30pm
Wednesday, August 15th - 8:00am to 7:30pm
Thursday, August 16th - 8:00am to 7:30pm
Friday, August 17th - 8:00am to 5:00pm
Saturday, August 18th - 9:00am to 2:00pm
Monday, August 20th - 8:00am to 7:30pm
Tuesday, August 21st - 8:00am to 7:30pm

Classes begin and fall hours commence Wednesday, August 22nd.

Opening this weekend is the movie Becoming Jane starring Anne Hathaway. It’s a fictional biographical portrait of a pre-fame Jane Austen and her romance with a young Irishman.

ALA and The Hollywood Librarian

This past June, I and other fellow NVCC librarians attended the 2007 American Library Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. A highlight of the weeklong events was the world premier of The Hollywood Librarian, the first full-length documentary film to focus on the work and lives of librarians.
