Ruling from a federal judge in New York has ordered Google (owner of YoutTube) to provide Viacom, Inc (owner of Comedy Central, VH1, and Nickelodeon) with its viewing data. This data will be used in the copyright-infringement lawsuit that Viacom filed against Google last year. Viacom is arguing that YouTube provides access to more copyrighted videos than amateur videos. Google is arguing that this ruling ignores the protection of the Video Privacy Protection Act and that when ordered to supply the data, they will ask to make the logs anonymous in order to protect viewer's privacy rights.
